BMW Style 32 (BMW's own catalogue name is "Radial-Styling") is a single fine multi-spoke design that BMW produced as a whole family of sizes, not one wheel. BBS made the 17-inch versions and Cromodora the ones, in cast aluminium with a metallic-silver or darker Brilliantline finish. Under the one number "32" BMW homologated 15, 16, 17, 18 and 20-inch diameters, always on the 5×120 bolt pattern, fitted as factory equipment across the E36, E46 and Z3 as well as the larger E34, E39, E38, E60 and E65. So two people searching "style 32" rarely want the same wheel — identifying the right variant is half the job.
📐 The real size variants
The everyday version is the 17×8 ET47, a direct bolt-on for the E36 (M3 included), E46 (non-M3) and Z3 (non-M). Above it sit the 17×8.5 ET41 for the Compact and M3, the 18×8 ET47 for late E39/E38 cars, and rare 20×9 / 20×10 ET24 sets on the final E60/E65. Below, the light 15×7 and 16×7 wheels (ET20 to ET46) weigh about 7.4–7.7 kg each, versus ~10.4 kg for a 17×8. The OEM part numbers that help authenticate a set are 36111091869 (15″–17″ range) and 36111095340 (18×8 ET47); many castings are stamped W59295H.
🔧 The centre-bore trap: 72.6 vs 74.1 mm
This is the expensive mistake. Style 32 was cast in two different centre bores depending on the donor car. On the three-cylinder family — E36, E46 and Z3 — the bore is 72.6 mm and the wheel self-centres. But the E39 5 Series used a 74.1 mm bore unique to that generation. A 72.6 mm wheel will not seat on an E39 hub (it is 1.5 mm short), and an E39 wheel will wobble on an E36 unless you fit stepped hub-centric rings. The E60 went back to 72.6 mm. Measure your car's hub spigot, not the seller's photo, before you buy.
⚖️ Staggered set-ups
The most wanted set is the factory E39 staggered pairing: 17×8 ET20 front and 17×9 ET26 rear, always on the 74.1 mm bore. The 540i and 740i also offered an staggered fit (18×8 front / 18×9 rear). If someone sells you "four matching 17×8s" as a staggered set, it isn't one — a genuine staggered set has wider rears on a different offset, and mixing widths front-to-rear changes how the rear axle behaves.
🛞 Tyres by diameter and fitting
Sensible sizes that keep rolling diameter near stock: 195/65 R15 or 205/60 R15 on the 15×7; 205/55 R16 on the 16×7; 225/45 R17 on the 17×8 (and 235/40 R17 for the E39's 17×9 rear); 235/40 R18 front with 255/35 R18 rear on the staggered set. Torque the conical-seat M12×1.5 bolts to 120 Nm in a star pattern and re-check after 50–100 km. Buying used, look inside the barrel for kerb cracks and corrosion blooming under the lacquer — these are 20-to-30-year-old alloys — and confirm the set is consistent (matching BBS or Cromodora stamps) rather than a mix of replicas with the wrong offset or bore.

How do I tell which Style 32 I need?

Does the 17×8 ET47 fit both E36 and E46?

Why won't my Style 32 fit my E39?
